Diving Form

Diving Form is an anti-goddess sculpture. It emphasises the strength and dynamism of the female physique rather than the reproductive or sensual. The powerful legs and shoulders express that a woman’s interest in her form is more about capability than appearance. The act of diving, of balancing at that irreversible point of commitment, reflects unguarded ambition and optimism. The diver is launched into the unknown, unaware of obstacles and not knowing how far is too far. The face is serene, accepting and prepared to fight waves, to develop the techniques and rhythms to survive them. Diving Form was commissioned for a feminist. Please note: these photographs were taken before installation on a temporary base. The sculpture will be set into a limestone plinth in a garden in Derbyshire.
